  • Shamita Das Dasgupta: Social activist and scholar. Co-founder of Manavi. Author of several books on the topics of ethnicity, gender, immigration, and violence against women.
    Her books include: A Patchwork Shawl: Chronicles of South Asian Women in America, Body Evidence: Intimate Violence against South Asian Women in America, and Mothers for Sale: Women in Kolkata’s Sex Trade.

DHF and Turning Point for Women and Families hosted a program in commemoration of the murder of Aasiya Zubair Hassan on February 12, 2009.
Turning Point and DHF both strongly condemn this act of domestic violence and hosted a program to bring a clear and educated understanding of the principles of Islam and address misconceptions about the status and treatment of women.
